KUALA LUMPUR, 5 MAY 2021: Kuala Lumpur and several districts in Terengganu, Johor and Perak will be placed under the Movement Control Order (MCO) for two weeks starting May 7.
The government agreed to enforce MCO in Kuala Lumpur after reviewing the presentation and proposals from the Ministry of Health (MOH).
“The MCO in Kuala Lumpur has to be enforced due to the increase in the number of daily cases and new clusters,” said Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob in a statement today.
17 new clusters were recorded from April 1 to 27 in Kuala Lumpur.
Meanwhile, 14 mukims in the Besut district, (except Mukim Hulu Besut) would also be placed under MCO for the same period. The affected mukims are Kampung Raja, Lubuk Kawah, Pelagat, Tenang, Keluang, Bukit Kenak, Kubang Bemban, Jabi, Kerandang, Pengkalan Nangka, Pasir Akar, Tembila, Bukit Puteri and Kuala Besut.
The decision was made after 406 new cases were reported by MOH from 5,617 screenings conducted between April 1 to May 3, 2021.
Ismail Sabri said that the surge in cases in Besut was due to movements of students and workers from neighbouring state. The district also recorded 15 clusters within the period.
The MCO implemented in Johor include areas in Johor Bahru, Kulai and Kota Tinggi. Mukim Taiping as well as Larut Matang and Selama district in Perak were also placed under the MCO following a sharp increase in number of new cases recorded.
Ismail Sabri explained that the MCO was enforced in all areas to ensure the people's movement could be monitored and that mass screenings could be done to prevent further infection.
Ismail Sabri also announced areas including Kampung Lubok Katak in Tapah, Perak; Kampung Permatang Tulang Mukim Sebatu, Jasin, Melaka and Sekolah Menengah Ugama (SMU) Pantai Manis, Papar, Sabah will be placed under the Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) beginning Friday until May 20 following a significant increase in positive cases in those areas.

“The EMCO had to be imposed due to the high number of active cases in the areas as well as to facilitate targeted screenings thus curbing the spread of COVID-19 infection,” said Ismail Sabri.
The EMCO at Rumah Panjang Giman, Batu 13, Jalan Engkamop, Pakan, Sarikei; Kampung Rayang, Serian; and Rumah Panjang Jalan Bukut Balingian, Mukah, Sarawak which was scheduled to end tomorrow will also be extended to May 20.
On the other hand, Ismail Sabri said the EMCO at SMKA Johor Bahru, Johor; Maahad Tahfiz Al-Quran Al Asriah, Banggol Chicha, Pasir Mas, Sekolah Menengah Sains Machang, Kelantan; and Kampung Sileng Dayak, Lundu, Sarawak will end tomorrow.
