KUALA LUMPUR, 10 MAY 2021: The whole of Malaysia will be placed under a Movement Control Order (MCO) for the third time, effective May 12 until June 7, announced Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin.
Muhyiddin stated that the government has agreed to implement stricter strategies to counter the spread of COVID-19 in the community and prevent cases from continuing to rise.
Data and science continue to show that assembly practices that make social distancing difficult, as well as the involvement of individuals in congested areas, are major causes of COVID-19 transmission.

"The infection chain of COVID-19 can only be broken by encouraging the people to stay at home through strict movement controls," Muhyiddin said.
"We have successfully flattened the COVID-19 infection curve in the first and second wave of the pandemic. I would like to remind everyone that the third wave we are currently facing is more violent and critical. We have yet to win," he added.
Malaysia is struggling with a third outbreak of COVID-19 infections. The 3,807 new COVID-19 cases reported on Monday raised the national total amount to 444,484, with 1,700 deaths.
