COVID: New cases increase to 4,855 Thursday

Kuala Lumpur- The new COVID- In the last 24 hours, 19 new cases have been reported in the region, bringing the total to 4,855 cases, up from 4,765 the day before.

Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, director-general of health, stated on his Twitter account that during the year, Selangor still had the highest number of daily cases (1,783), followed by Kuala Lumpur (521), and Johor (467).

Sarawak and Penang each had 395 cases, while Kelantan (339), Perak (302), Kedah (193), Terengganu (148), Negeri Sembilan (100), Sabah (76), Melaka (67), Pahang (56), Putrajaya (nine), and Labuan (four) had none.

In the meantime, Dr. Noor Hisham said in a tweet that three of the latest cases were imported, while the other 4,852 were local transmission.

"Three foreigners were involved in imported cases, while 4,494 Malaysians and 358 foreigners were involved in local cases," he added.

He also mentioned that in the last 24 hours, a total of 3,347 recovered cases were reported, for a total of 414,707 recoveries, with 41,582 active cases.

According to him, a total of 481 patients were admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), with 247 of them needing respiratory assistance, although the number of fatalities from the pandemic has risen to 1,788 people, with 27 new deaths confirmed today.

Dr. Noor Hisham reported that eight new clusters were discovered today, with five involving office transmission, two involving the environment, and one religious-related cluster.

The new workplace clusters discovered are Jalan Keretapi Lama Cluster (Selangor); Lima Jalan Kebun Cluster (Selangor); Jalan Tropika Industri Cluster (Johor); Jalan Suasa Industri Cluster (Johor); and Jalan Chain Ferry Cluster (Penang); while Sarawak has two community clusters, Jalan Lilin Cluster and Kongsi Lapan Cluster; and Tanjung Rimau Cluster (Religion) (Melaka).

"The most recent discoveries push the total number of clusters to 1,848, with 457 of them that are active clusters," he added, adding that the total number of clusters considered terminated so far was 1,391.
