Two villages in Alor Gajah and Tawau under EMCO

KUALA LUMPUR, 14 MAY 2021: Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, Senior Minister (Security Cluster) announced that the Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) will be imposed in a village in Alor Gajah, Melaka and Tawau, Sabah starting Sunday (May 16), due to report of an increase in COVID-19 cases in the two localities.


“Kampung Lubok Redan in Alor Gajah and Lorong 2 Kampung Kongsi 8 in Tawau will be under the EMCO until May 29,” said Ismail Sabri in a statement today.


56 COVID-19 cases were detected in Kampung Lubok Redan, Alor Gajah, while 15 cases were recorded from 56 screenings, with a positivity rate of 26.79% in Lorong 2 in Kampung Kongsi 8, Tawau.


"The implementation of EMCO in both localities would enable the Health Ministry (MOH) to conduct targeted screenings and active case detection to prevent the virus from spreading further," he stated.

On the other hand, Ismail announced that the EMCO in SMK Madai in Kunak, Sabah which was scheduled to end today, will be extended until May 28.


“As of today, MOH had conducted 895 screenings and of that total, 42 positive cases were recorded. There are also still 51 samples awaiting results," Ismail Sabri said.


Meanwhile, the EMCO in Kampung Bergosong, Tawau will end tomorrow, as scheduled, after the MOH detected a downward trend of active cases in the area.


“A total of 499 people were screened, with 28 testing positive. All patients and close contacts have been isolated,” he said.
